  This pattern of mildly elevated acylcarnites is not consistent with a specific disorder. A low peak of free carnitine was detedted in this sample. suggesting inadequate carnitine levels in this patient. This may cause false negative acylcarnitine results. If clinical signs and symptoms indicate, consider repeat plasma acylcarnitine analysis when the patient is on adequate carnitine supplementation. This test may miss disorders characterized by minimal or intermittentr metabolite excretion, especially if the patient is asymptomatic at the time of sample collection. Results can also be affected by the patients carnitine status, and by certain medications and dietary therapies. Clinical correlation is advised in the interpretation of abnormal results.
