GE Junction Biopsy

CLINICAL HISTORY
Followup of EMR of Barrett's esophagus; history of esophageal CA; see prior CPMC pathology. Upper GI endoscopy biopsy - GE junction-rule out adenoma, dysplasia, neoplasm. scarring; no visual evidence of barrett's esophagus.


FINAL MICROSCOPIC DIAGNOSIS:
Gastroesophageal junction, biopsy:
Gastric cardia-type mucosa negative for intestinal/Barrett metaplasia by Alcan blue - PAS stain.
Squamous mucosa with no significant histologic abnormality.


GROSS DESCRIPTION:
One part is received in formalin in a container labeled with the patient's name, date of birth and "GE junction". It consists of four tan irregular fragments of tissue measuring 0.5 x 0.3 x 0.1 cm in aggregate. The specimen is wrapped and submitted in toto in one casette labeled A1.
