TISSUES:

A. 0.5 cm Below SCJ (Squamocolumnar Junction) Biopsy; B. 0.5 cm Above SCJ (Squamocolumnar Junction) Biopsy; C. 1.5 cm Above Squamocolumnar Junction (SCJ) Biopsy


CLINICAL HISTORY

Post DX-resolved Barrett's Upper GI endoscopy biopsy>


FINAL MICROSCOPIC DIAGNOSIS:

0.5 cm below squamocolumnar junction, biopsy (A):
-Glandular mucosa, oxyntic type, with no significant histologic abnormality.
-Negative for complete intestinal metaplasia.


0.5 cm above squamocolumnar junction biopsy (B):
-Squamous mucosa with no significant histologic abnormality.
-Single small fragment of glandular mucosa negative for complete/Barrett's intestinal metaplasia.


1.5 cm above squamocolumnar junction, biopsy (C):
-Squamous mucosa with no significant histologic abnormality.
-No glandular mucosa identified.


GROSS DESCRIPTION:

All parts are received in formalin, labeled with the patient's name and date of birth.


A. Additionally labeled "0.5 cm below SCJ (squamocolumnar Junction)" are four white-tan irregular fragments of tissue ranging in greatest dimension from approximately 0.2-0.4 cm. The specimen is submitted in toto in one cassette labeled A1.


B. Additionally labeled "0.5 cm below SCJ (squamocolumnar Junction)" are three white irregular fragments of tissue ranging in greatest dimension from approximately 0.2-0.4 cm. The specimen is submitted in toto in one cassette labeled B1.


C. Additionally labeled "1.5 cm above squamocolumnar Junction (SCJ)" are four white irregular fragments of tissue ranging in greatest dimension from less than 0.1-0.4 cm in greatest dimension. The specimen is submitted in toto in one cassette labeled C1.
