CLINICAL HISTORY
Upper GI endoscopy biopsy-rule out Barrett's
FINAL MICROSCDOPIC DIAGNOSIS
A. 0.5 below squamocolumnar junction, biopsy;
- Cardia-type gastric mucosa with non-specific reactive changes;
- Negative for Barrett's/intestinal metaplasia.
B. 0.5 above squamocolumnar junction, biopsy;
- Squamous mucosa with no significant pathologic abnormality,
- No squamocolumnar junction mucosa is present for evaluation,
- Negative for eosinophilic and acute (neutrophilic) inflammation.
An Alcan blue-PAS stain was performed on the 0.5 below squamocolumnar junction biopsy and does not highlight any intestinal metaplasia. An Alcan blue-PAS stain was performed on the 0.5 above squamocolumnar junction biopsy and is negative for fungal organisms.

All parts are received in formalin, labeled with the patient's name and date of birth.
A. Additionally labeled "0.5 below SCJ" are four tan irregular fragments of tissue ranging in greatest dimension from 0.2-0.7 cm. The specimen is submitted in toto in one cassette labeled A1.
B. Additionally labeled "0.5 below SCJ" are two white irregular fragments of tissue measuring approximately 0.1 and 0.3 cm in greatest dimension. The specimen is submitted in toto in one cassette labeled B1.
