Allergies: Dust, Mold, Pollen, Feathers.
In Chicago and New York City I needed to take allergy shots. Sometimes during the fall when the rest of the country is having Indian Summer, we have a hot spell in San Francisco. I have some irritation during this period, but not enough to be annoying.
During the summer of 1997 (the El Nino year) the air in my part of town was not laundered daily by the fog as it usually is. When I woke up instead of sand in my eyes, I had small clumps of sticky stuff gluing my eyelashes together. I had some sneezing during this period. It was probably caused by allergens carried over from the East Bay.
The CFS doctor (he is also board certified in Allergy and Immunology) said it was allergy. I'm not surprised. No fog this year - 1997. Soap and water was not particularly helpful in getting the sticky stuff out of my eyes. Plain water and a finger was the best combination. I had to clean my eyelashes and the skin around my eyes many times a day. Beginning in about October 1997 the sticky stuff that collected in my eyelashes became significantly reduced. Other than what I reported above I have had no problems with allergy and I have not taken allergy shots since living in San Francisco.
